Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a first-person shooter developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games, released in November 2011 as the eighth installment in the Call of Duty franchise. The campaign follows Task Force 141 and allied forces in a climactic conflict against Russian ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov, continuing the narrative threads from Modern Warfare 2 across global battlefields. Multiplayer features 16 maps with customizable loadouts, killstreaks, and the new "Survival Mode" wave-based cooperative gameplay alongside the traditional competitive suite. Modern Warfare 3 became one of the best-selling games of 2011 and stands as a landmark entry that defined multiplayer-focused shooter design for its generation, though its campaign received mixed reception for narrative pacing.
